Why Fully AI-Written Resumes Lose Recruiters' Trust, and How to Fix Yours
The signs that make a resume look fully AI-written, why that hurts credibility, and how to use AI as a helper while keeping your own details and voice.
A recruiter opens 5 resumes in a row for one role. Every one starts with "Results-driven professional with a proven track record". Every one uses "spearheaded" and "leveraged", and none says what the candidate actually achieved. She does not reject them for using AI, but because after reading them she cannot tell how these people differ.
The problem is not AI, it is emptiness
Using AI to polish language, check spelling or organise structure is fine. The problem starts when AI writes the whole resume from very little information. The result is sentences that sound good but contain no facts, and look like everyone else's resume made the same way. The reader cannot judge your ability, and starts to wonder how much of it is true.
Signs a resume looks fully AI-written
- Repeated buzzwords: results-driven, dynamic, passionate, spearheaded, in every bullet
- No specifics: no product names, systems, customer types or scale of work
- Suspiciously round numbers: "improved efficiency by 50%" in every role, without saying what was measured
- Every bullet the same length and rhythm: it reads like a template
- Skills that do not match experience: 15 tools in Skills, none used in any role
- Cover letter and resume in different voices: or neither matches how you speak in the interview
Why this affects selection
When many resumes use similar language, readers look for what AI cannot generate: specific details only someone who did the work would know. In interviews, they probe bullets that sound too polished. If you cannot explain the details, the credibility of the whole resume disappears at once.
AI can write sentences, but only you know what really happened in that job.
How to use AI and stay credible
1. Start from your raw information
Before opening an AI tool, write your own notes for each role: what you did, with whom, which tools, what the results were and which numbers you actually measured. Then ask AI to organise this information, not to invent content.
2. Tell the AI not to add facts
Example prompt: "Rewrite this bullet concisely in English. Use only the information given, do not add new numbers or results, and avoid words like spearheaded or results-driven."
3. Review and edit it yourself
Before (fully AI-written): Spearheaded innovative marketing initiatives that drove significant business growth.
After (real details): Ran LINE OA re-engagement campaigns for 3 skincare brands, testing message timing weekly; repeat orders rose over two quarters based on our CRM reports.
The second version names the channel, customer type, method and the source of the result, which makes it far more believable.
4. Read it aloud
If you would never say a sentence that way in real life, rewrite it in your own words. Your resume should sound like the best-organised version of you.
Thai resumes have the same problem
In Thai resumes, a common symptom is long, overly formal sentences such as "played a key role in driving the organisation towards excellence". Replace them with plain working language, such as "Produced monthly cost reports for Procurement, used to select suppliers".
Cautions
- Do not put confidential company information or other people's personal data into AI tools
- Some companies ask directly whether you used AI to write. Answer honestly and explain what you used it for
- Check every number and tool name against reality, because AI may add things that are not true without telling you
Where to start
- Open your current resume, use Ctrl+F to find repeated buzzwords, and delete them or replace them with facts
- Pick your 5 most important bullets and add specifics, method and measurable results
- Remove skills that have no evidence in Experience
- Read the whole resume aloud and fix sentences that do not sound like you
- Be ready to explain the story behind every bullet in one minute
