10 Free AI Tools Every Professional Should Know in 2026, and How to Choose

Ten AI tools you can start using for free, grouped by task: writing, design, data, automation and code, plus how to choose and what to watch with your data.

A colleague once told me he had signed up for 12 AI tools but actually used 2. The problem for professionals today is not a lack of tools; it is having so many that you do not know where to start. This article groups 10 tools you can start using without paying by type of work, so you can pick only the ones that match your job.

What does a free AI tool mean?

Most tools on this list have a free plan or free version that handles real work, but usually with limits on usage, model version or some features. These terms change often, so check each vendor's official page again before relying on it for important work.

Group 1: writing and thinking

1. ChatGPT

A general assistant for drafting emails, summarising documents, translating and brainstorming. A good first tool for beginners. See the course 9 ChatGPT techniques for beginners or read the ChatGPT guide for first-time users.

2. Claude

Good for reading long documents, writing in a natural tone and analysing content step by step. It handles Thai well. See the course Claude AI for free in daily life.

3. Google Gemini

Connects easily with Google services, a good fit if you already use Gmail, Docs and Drive, and for tasks that need supporting search.

Group 2: images, design and video

4. Canva

For presentations, social posts and short videos, with AI features to help draft designs and copy. Some AI features are on paid plans. See the courses 10 Canva AI tools and animated videos with Canva and AI.

5. Microsoft Designer

Creates graphics from prompts, a good fit if you already work in the Microsoft ecosystem and need quick visuals.

Group 3: data and analysis

6. Power BI Desktop

Microsoft offers Power BI Desktop as a free download. Use it to build dashboards from Excel files such as sales, stock or expenses. Sharing reports through the online service may require a licence. See the course Power BI basics from Excel files.

7. ChatGPT data analysis

Upload an Excel or CSV file and ask in plain language, such as which month sales dropped, and the AI can create charts and summarise patterns without code. See the course using ChatGPT Code Interpreter for data analysis.

Group 4: automation

8. n8n

Build automated workflows, for example an incoming email gets logged to Google Sheets and summarised by AI. The Community Edition can be installed on your own machine or server with no licence fee, while n8n Cloud is a paid plan with a trial period. See the course n8n Basics.

9. Claude Desktop

A desktop app that makes it easier to work with files and other tools. Capabilities depend on your plan. See the course Claude Desktop automation in 15 minutes.

Group 5: coding

10. Gemini CLI

Google launched Gemini CLI in 2025 as open source. It lets you direct coding work from the terminal and has a free tier for personal Google accounts. See the course Gemini CLI for beginners in Thai.
